Best of the Best: Grammys Hair 2018

As a New Year begins and we get into our regular routines after a crazy holiday season we can't help but get excited about what this time of the year means for tv. It's award show season! With everything from the Golden Globes to the Oscars, the beginning of the year is the time for stylists, hairdressers, and makeup artists to bring together the looks you see cascading down the red carpet. The 2018 60th Annual Grammys are officially over as of a few hours ago and we've racked up the best looks and most prominent trends we saw in hair last night. Afterwards, connect with us on social media to tell us your thoughts on the best and worst looks of the night and which looks you think your clients will be dying to try next time they sit in your chairs!

Warm Honey Locks with Chrissy Teigen

The social media queen showed up looking like a glittering goddess in this Yanina Couture piece alongside husband John Legend in a very well fit blue and black suit. While the dress is gorgeous and fitting for a mother to be, Chrissy’s hair stole the show with its healthy shine and unbothered tousles. The shape of the waves and lob really accentuate her full cheeks and pregnancy glow, with minimal makeup meant to not distract from the dress, Luna Legend’s mom looks incredible. Mrs. Legend revealed during a red carpet interview last night they are expecting a boy! Congratulations to the happy couple. Hair by the incomparable Jen Atkin using products from her signature line Ouai.

A Voluminous Moment from SZA

This Best New Artist Nominee rocked her signature volume for the show with this stunning Versace gown. The introverted artist delivered a performance later in the night that showed off she’s one to watch in 2018. The singer also considers herself a tomboy and says her hair is often her “saving grace for femininity“. Those luscious locks found their own saving grace after SZA fell ill when she was a teenager and lost all of it due to side effects from her medication. Read all about her hair care journey here.

Roots Are IN As Far as Rita Ora is Concerned

In the first of many amazing blonde moments throughout the night, Rita Ora gives us old Hollywood glamour with a twist in this high slit number from Ralph & Russo. Her dark roots made a soft impact for a moment all about the dress, but that loose wave with an incredible color blend has us running towards dark roots! The sleek look was put together by Brent Lawler and we’re dying for more.

Effortless Chic (With a Twist) From Hailee Steinfeld

It is our humble opinion that Hailee Steinfeld at least ties for best dressed (with another artist you’ll see below) because this look is out of this world. The dress is structured in all the right places and provides the perfect canvas for a bold shoe and makeup moment. With such stunning but powerful looks going on, what’s a hairdresser to do? Gregory Russell was up to the task and more styling a deep left side part and using only John Freida products provided the perfect frame for a minimal-chic look with a rock and roll twist.

The Woman That Needs No Introduction… Lady Gaga

Oh la la it’s Gaga in what is sure to be remembered as one of the most incredible red carpet moments of the night. The New York native often goes above and beyond for all of her Grammy looks but this show-stopping moment had every head turning to see how long that dress train actually was (we’re thinking 10 feet).

While this was a spectacular instant for goth glam, that intricate corset braid and everyone asking “Why didn’t I think of that?” Hair by Frederic Aspiras using John Frieda products to maintain those waist-long locks locked for the night.

And Lastly, A Swan Song From Cardi B

For her first Grammys, music sensation Cardi B spared no expense when it came to her Grammys red carpet look. This Ashi Studios dress provided the perfect silhouette for her petite frame and the arch of the fabric created an angelic effect no one could ignore. The performer kept with the heaven-esque theme sporting diamond ear cuffs shaped like angel wings. The hair was a fabulous choice styled in a wispy updo with some pieces falling for that effortless ethereal effect. Well done Cardi!

Anything else?

We could continue for hours on other looks that stole on hearts last night including Janelle Monae's bloom into blonde, Miley Cyrus in easy-going sophistication, and Anna Kendrick’s loose plaid moment. Across the board, we saw loose waves steal the show and healthy hair have a moment. We can’t wait to see what the Oscars has in store!
